Mum got me as a companion for Chester when I was 9 months old. I first belonged to a cruel and neglectful owner, who crudely cut off my tail and left me outdoors alone for the first 6 months of my life. After that I was rehomed to a family, who were nice enough, but they thought that I was far too boisterous, yet did not want to walk me. So I ended up in a rescue, where I was consigned to death row, being considered too much of a handful and bad tempered. Mum came to the rescue with Chester and it was love at first sight. We just kind of recognised each other. The rescue did not want to let me go, as I had been deemed unsuitable to be a pet, but they had to admit, that mum and I clicked. Mum just could not believe the bad things they said about me. I got on with Chester like a house on fire and never took any notice of anyone else when we were together. We had a wonderful life together going on lovely long walks every day.
One day I stood up to a nasty man we met on a walk. We were crossing a narrow bridge over a small pond. It was really only a plank resting on some stones, althought there was a railing on one side. The pond was only about 20 metres across, muddy and shallow. When we were in the middle of the bridge mum gripping onto the railing for dear life wobbling along, a jogger appeared on the opposite side. He could have easily jogged around the pond or just jogged on the spot while we crossed, but he ran forward onto the bridge and tried to intimidate us into backing away or into the water. An argument ensued. All this time I hung back quietly. The man then tried to push mum into the water. I surged forward barking loudly. The man backed off. Meantime people were starting to gather on the sides of the pond attracted by the noise of the argument and my barking. The jogger went around the pond which is what he should have done in the first place.
