We now have a splendid new boiler, but the pipes are not connected yet. The plumber is saying it's all very challenging. You can just about see him under the counter.

I have an oil filled electric radiator in the living room, so I am not really cold, but the rest of the house is starting to feel like a fridge. It was cold last night and getting out of bed briefly seem slightly unpleasant. The novelty of being cold is wearing off now.

And I suppose you hate that mess on your kitchen counter, Marta...

Actually, the plumber is quite tidy. He tidies up very well at the end of the day. Unfortunately, during the day the kitchen is unusable.

can t you turn your oven on to warm up the kitchen and have a fan blow the warmth to the next room?

The kitchen does warm up with cooking, but it would never heat up the hall and upstairs. Never mind. It should be all finished soon.

best to all of you

Maybe you should try to eat something very warming (and heavy) : onion soup, bigos, knedliczki....

How are your loggers taking it , do you have hot water for them to shower in xxx

We have had hot water so far. They don't seem to be complaining yet.

The house was very cold in Minas Gerais, another State in which I lived. As in Brazil we do not use gas heaters we feel very cold in these places. The heaters we have are electrics, but they never heat the room all over. Even when it comes to getting under the covers the bed is cold. I can not imagine what it's like in a cold country.

I hope you will soon get heating, not comfortable in the cold house, so you better stay in bed.

I like Caroline’s idea lol 😂

Just hang in there Marta, it will soon be finished. I know it's not nice to feel cold. If we lose the power during winter, it's awful as I've only electric heat. Those with wood heaters or the old open fireplace are at least, warm, even though there is no electric light. One can use candles. It's a good idea to have both a wood heater & a heat pump. One would need a small supply of wood for emergencies.

Wood, coal fires or oil heaters are illegal in London, Trish. We have gas and electricity. You are right about candles though. I will light one up in the bedroom tonight.
