As Aggie has snitched on me, I am a very lazy cook. I eat convenience foods, which are unhealthy or horrible tasting or both. It seems to me that a slow cooker might be the answer to my woes. I can prepare the ingredients and put them on the cook without worrying about the food boiling over or burning. That's what usually happens to my cooking. It ends up forgotten and overdone.

Anyway, I have never tried a slow cooker before, and now I am ready to experiment. Do you know any recipes? They have to be dead simple though.

you can cook a roast beef in a slow cooker with vegetables....stews are easy, meat, veggies, seasonings and a little broth or just add a bit of water to create a nice gravy..just throw in whatever you have and forget about it.If you add bows with chicken or beef, make sure the bows ( pasta ) is added an hour before dinner is done so not to overcook...let us know what you cooked up marta ps........show us a picture of your crock pot

It's only a 1.5 litre pot, Suzanne. I am not going to cook anything noteworthy. Arline's recipe is about all I am likely to manage.

Stewing steak, mushrooms, onions, carrots, Gravy/oxo and then throw in abit of Stilton. An hour before you want to eat, turn up high and throw in some dumplings made from Aunt Bessie’s packer mix (just add water). Delicious.

I was given a slow cooker but have never used it. It has a Recipe book. I should try it. I tend to just cook the same things & some are freezer items or pre-pared meals. I've become lazy too. But I always have plenty of vegetables (which I know you don't like Marta.) xx

Fancy you knowing I don't like vegetables, Trish. I did Google recipes, but they seemed all a bit fancy. I like my food very plain and basic. I have bought a couple of recipe books from Amazon and will try and adapt them, but I think that practical recipes from real life are best.

I think seldom use slow cooker here, aside from rice cooker, but what is the difference of rice cooker and slow cooker
  113 days ago
I think a rice cooker boils first and then continues at a low temperature. A slow cooker is always on a low setting.

I have the slow cooker at home now with 2 recipe books. The recipes are so complicated, I think I will use the books for door stops. I will just have to improvise, as usual. Tomorrow I will attempt a chicken curry but with potatoes instead of rice.

The best recipes are always the ones you make up yourself.

Uing books as a door stopper?..you make me laugh marta.......For easy slow cooker recipies just go on you tube or do as caroline says..make up your own

The chicken is starting to cook. The smell is permeating the house. I didn't do the curry, because I shoud have put the spices and water in first. I was no good trying to put them on top. There is no way to stir the crock pot. It's too small. For now it's just a stew as Arline suggested. Oh well, pratice makes perfect.
