I think I have the slow cooker method figured out. I watched some videos and got better tips than the recipes in books.

Put unpeeled small new potatoes in the bottom of the crock.

Sear the meat in a drop of oil in a frying pan.

Put the meat on top of the potatoes.

Add flour and spices or dry herbs into the frying pan and fry briefly.

Add water to the frying pan to make a sauce.

Put some vegetables on top of the meat in the crock. I don't fry onions, I just add an unpeeled quartered mild onion in with the vegetables. This I removed at the end of cooking.

Pour the souce over the food in the crock so that it's about 2/3 full.

Cover and turn on high and that's it. It takes literally 5 minutes. My kind of cooking! I can do a chicken stew and a chicken curry. Later I will try beef and lamb versions.

I tried a lamb stew today. It was ok, but it had a strong taste like mutton. I am not sure if it was the meat or my cooking. I will try again tomorrow.
