Finally got new lodgers to replace the man, who wanted to give me kiss (keys). They seem nice, but they have so much stuff, you can't see the floor. I don't think they fully understood the house rules, being foreign with little english. I have hung up the house rules in the kitchen, in order to give them a chance to read them properly. I have resisted doing this in the past, because it seemed a bit too formal an unfriendly. Now I am afraid I will be engulfed in chaos. I will have to be firm, which I hate. I have never mastered the art of being assertive without people taking offence. I need one of those self help books...

how many are they?
It's only a couple, but they moved in with a removal van. They must have lived in a whole house before.

Oooo Poor marta!!

Oh my goodness! You might have to move out yourself to give them room?? Or, squeeze into the Conservatory. If they can't get all their stuff in, they will have to store it somewhere. Must be lots of Foreigners in the U.K. You will just have to be firm with the Rules. They will get the idea, eventually.

Hang in there Marta it might just take them time to sort stuff out hopefully they don’t create to many issues for you

if you have to be firm, be at the beginning better than later.... there are two old spanish sayings: "las cosas claras y el chocolate espeso" and "es preferible un día rojo que cien amarillos" the first is more or less: let's to clarify the facts, and the second one is better one day complaining about disgusting things than put up with it everday...

I agree, it's better to clarify the rules sooner rather than later. I am also hoping they will sort themselves out over the next few days.

Oh my gosh! I don't like a house with too much stuff, it's like there's no more space. :/

I can't find the floor, Roxanne!
They brought all the things in their house to your House
  84 days ago
if they rented a room, then a room is their space for their belongings..They cannot use your space for their stuff..it is only respectful they follow house rules.
It's ok, they have put their stuff away already. I don't know where they put it all, but they have.

great...

I was watching the pinterest about how the Chinese were saving things. So many incredible ideas, and so many things are embedded in the minimal space. They do not throw anything away. Maybe these people have learned something like this.

They have stored things from floor to ceiling.

What is this couple race
They are African Portuguese.
I found out yesterday, that my Portuguese lodgers are not of African origin. Well not directly. Their parents came from Cape Verde. I didn't know where it was either. It's on a group of islands in Melanesia. You may well ask, where is Melanesia then? It's in South West Pacific. Maybe you have heard of the canaries. It's vaguely somewhere thereabouts. West of equatorial Africa. These islands were unpopulated at all until the Portuguese discovered them. Then they became a trading post for slavers and others. Nowadays they are an independent and very diverse nation.

They sound quite interesting Marta. Island people are usually very friendly.

They seem quite westernised, Trish. Unlike the genuine African lodgers I had a couple of years ago. They were from the Ivory Coast. They were a bit uptight and ready to take offence at anything and everything. These new lodgers are much nicer.
That's excellent. They should fit in quite well then.
So far so good.

I am surprised that I have heard of the canary islands...close to spain, arent they?
The canary islands are off the west coast of Morroco north Africa. Where my lodgers come from is much further out in the ocean, but it's all a part of Melanesia. Melanesia is a huge area of the Atlantic spreading between Africa and places like Borneo. It's all a very long way from anywhere else.

ell, at least you travel around the world without leaving your own house. Is it possible to have a conversation with them and learn something?
These two don't speak English very well. It's just basic necessities. The previous Africans spoke good English, but they were not very chatty. My other lodger is Hungarian. She speaks English quite well and rather a lot. But you are right, Barbara, the world comes to me. No need to travel.

as you have realized beforehand, geography is not my strong suit...anyway, at least you meet interesting people from all over the map..
You were nearly right Suzanne, canaries are not near Spain but they are owned by Spain!
wow maybe you can hint at them about getting storage for all the stuff Marta , Hope it all works out xxx
