Last year a bought myself a somewhat expensive fan by Dyson. It was to keep me cool with a gentle quiet breeze and it has a remote control. I felt slightly foolish spending so much money on a fan, because you could get a basic fan for a fraction of the price. Nevertheless, I liked my new fan and enjoyed having it waft over me.

So there I was today with my fan blowing pleasantly around the living room, and you will never guess what happened. Never in a million years, not ever! The blooming thing overheated!! Granted, it hasn't broken down, it has just thrown a safety switch. Still, it's not much use, is it. About as useful as a chocolate teapot!

Great comparison - chocolate teapot! I will not buy this thing.

Contact Dyson Marta let them know it over heated and tripped the safety switch. Dyson are a really good company to deal with 😀

Yes Marta. Do what Wayne suggests. There might be a fault with your Fan. They are very expensive out here. Anything made by Dyson is. I don't buy their products as I'm not rich enough. xx

Seems like everything you buy nowadays doesn't last. Chocolate teapot, that's funny, and tasty!

I am sure there is still it called warranty

I am worried the manufacturer will say it's designed to work that way.

Marta I use to sell them and no there not suppose to run that way, if it’s overheating it’s a fault with the unit or possibly or your PowerPoint. Try another power point first and see if it trips it again if you want but definitely don’t be worried contacting them

Thanks, Wayne. It plugs into a conversion unit, because it has a continental (European) standard plug, which doesn't fit into UK sockets. These can be a little wobbly. I have pushed it together and hope it will work ok.

Good luck Marta if not please contact Dyson even working through an adapter it shouldn’t overheat

Thanks again,. Wayne. I will see how it goes. Hopefully it will be ok.

Ooo! Lately, there are TV commercial all the time just about Dyson fans (in 3 dimensions). Only last evening, watching it I vowed never to buy it, since they are so expensive and who knows if they work properly!

I had a similar situation last year. Son buy a fan for me. because they are expensive and I can't buy it myself. I don't remember what the firm was. I turned it on and it worked, maybe ten minutes. After that threw the counters, spread an unpleasant smell. Carried to warranty service. Said to repair. Repaired for a long time. I brought home. I turned on. the situation was the same. It turns out he was crippled. After a while, the firm changed to a new one. but it took a long time. the heat has already expired.

The fan seems ok now. I think there was an issue with the adapter, as Wayne suggested, thanks Wayne. I would not have thought of checking that, because the sockets are out of view.

Bad luck, Alma. I would buy a different fan. I am really happy with the Dyson, but it is horrendously expensive.

That is great news Marta hope it continues to keep working 😀

everything dyson is very expensive so why did it go crazy on you....For the price you pay, surely it should not play tricks on you...glad you got it working normal again

I think it was a fault with the adapter on the socket, Suzanne.

and as for the chocolate teapot expression, I never heard that before..The one I heard starts with ( it's as useless as )..wont say the rest as it's a bit naughty

As useless as a 3 legged table is the expression used over here. Actually, there are perfectly good 3 legged tables. Not 4 legged ones with a leg missing, obviously.

hehehe....that was not the expression I hear over here...I love your expressions marta

You don't mean a spare part at a wedding surely, Suzanne.
