Elmer was my husband's cat. Elmer was already fully grown when we got married. I had my 2 cats Trunky and his mother Sulky who joined Elmer at his house. Elmer was a handsome and sociable kitty, who didn't mind my two intruders in his home.
When our girl dog Bonny was in her first heat just before she was due to be neutered, the neighbourhood dogs would congregate by our gate. Elmer would charge at them and one day he actually jumped on the back of a dog and rode down the road on the hapless dog like a rodeo rider. The dogs were just local pets and not some wild strays, which is just as well, otherwise Elmer would have come to a bad end.
