Zoey appeared at our door one January day in 2011. We never found her owners and the neighborhood rumor is that they moved and Zoey refused to get in the car when they left. The vet said she was about 10 months old. She was underfed and scared. We welcomed her into our family and Zander was thrilled to have a playmate. Zoey has made friends with almost everyone in the neighborhood. Some people call her “the neighborhood dog”. She spends time with different neighbors, sometimes spending a few days away at a time. She is a great guard dog and takes her job seriously. She protects her entire territory, which is the neighborhood. She is independent, feisty, and happy. Everyone who meets her loves her.
She is truly an amazing dog. I wrote a story about her that was published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Lessons Learned From My Dog, published January 24, 2023. They also did a podcast of my story. Link below. It is the second story, starts about halfway through.
